However he spent a large part of his life in the Riviera, Coignard has been very itinerant, and thus he has been living 3 years in New Orleans (1985-1988). He organizes many collective and personal exhibitions in France and abroad where his art is often appreciated (Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, France, etc.) In the same time he likes carving (Sculptures of glass, Venice, 1961 / Bronzes in 1977), he carries out, in 1975, an exhibition with fourteen tapestries in Brno (Czechoslovakia). His own personal engraved work - mainly with carborundum (Henri Goetz) starts in 1968. Until the Sixties, Coignard painted in an expressionist way, with washed-out colors and a very worked material. Later he creates abstract paintings, composed of random spots, regular forms, and typographical features. He often paints in brown and gray harmonies, always with a worked substance.
