Chu Teh-Chun
Chu Teh-Chun was born in 1920 in Jlangsu province, China. He was admitted in 1935 to the Art Academy of Hangzhou, he obtained his diploma in 1941. He became permanent professor in 1942 at the University of Nankin. In 1951, he moves to Taipei and in 1951 he is professor of the National University, where he teaches western painting. His first solo exhibition takes place in Paris in 1957, he frequents the artists of the School of Paris, Soulage, Hartung and Mathieu. He becomes successful and is his art is known abroad thanks to a few collective exhibitions which he participates in Pittsburgh, Jerusalem, Athens, San Paulo. The artist seems to open a new chapter in the area of landscape art, landscapes that are mixed with subtle poetry. Virtuous, inspired by calligraphy, signs and the mood of the Orient, he makes important graphic works, drawings, ceramics, large scale paintings. In 1987, the National Museum of Taipei organized a grand retrospective of his work, this would be his first time back to his native country. In 1997, he is elected to the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Paris. |
